Too Old??

So many times I send out an application to someone who wants a puppy or young dog, “no more than a year old” Their reasons are many, “if I don’t get it as a pup it wont know me as its master…want it to grow up with the kids, can’t trust an old dog…brain keeps growing, skull doesn’t…dog that has belonged to someone else will not be loyal…don’t know it’s background… can’t trust it…it won’t live long enough” etc, etc, etc. I feel so sorry for these people, they will never know the JOY they are missing… Those of us who have been fortunate enough to have taken in an adult or older dog have expirienced blessings beyond words. I personally have had dobermans since 1961 and have on two occasions tried to raise a puppy. Give me the settled, laid back, all together, well mannered, grateful, devoted, loving adult Dobe, who knows what life is all about, who respects my authority, defends my property instead of chewing it into pieces, and it grateful for everything I do for it, and gives so much in return. He may not be around as long as a young one, no matter. The quality of the love he gives makes each day a special blessing. While the young Dobes are running the fence, demanding attention, barking, digging, chewing, playing, ignoring my call for silence, the older dogs stand quietly at my side, content just to be with me. Oh yes, I’ll miss them when God decides he needs them more than I do, but the memories, and the lessons in love and devotion they are teaching me… will live forever.

Birdie F. Johnson

DUKE adopted

Duke is a very well mannered boy. He knows various commands, loves people and gets along great with other dogs and cats. He is housebroke, up to date on his shots and Micro-Chipped. He loves to ride around and go to different places.

Happy tails

This section provides “Happy Tails” of Dobermans we have placed in their forever homes.

REDD adopted

Redd hit the doggie lottery with his forever home. Coming from a fighting situation (he and his brother were intact), several teeth missing and others falling out. Heavy Heart Worm + and very thin, he had to learn how to be social with other dogs. He stayed with us for over a year before finding the perfect home for him. He is treated like royalty, knows the name of all his toys, and will take each out of his big toy box by name. He loves to go for car rides and is a great companion. We are so grateful for the loving home he has now.
